What’s New

I have recently opened a new, centrally located, easy-to-find office. From the 280 Freeway, exit Saratoga Avenue South, and take the first left turn on Moorpark Avenue. Go 1/2 block, and find 4100 Moorpark on the right (address may be hard to see—look for the big trees in front). There’s a blue postal box near the driveway. I’m on the ground floor of a yellow-brown two-story building. The waiting room and my office are spacious and pleasant, and parking is easy. I look forward to seeing both new and returning clients here.

What’s it like to go to therapy?

As far as I’m concerned, you’re hiring me to do a job for you. For example, if you’re not happy with the way your life is going, and you want something to be different, my first job is to figure out what your situation is, learn what’s working, and what’s not working. Then we talk about what can change (and what can’t), and how to proceed. I often give homework assignments, so that my clients can get the most bang for their buck.
It depends on what you’re there for, because different situations call for different approaches. Someone who has a phobia about, say, spiders or elevators calls for a quite different way of working than does someone who’s dissatisfied with the way their kid is behaving. Usually we spend at least part of our time talking. Sometimes the client does most of the talking; sometimes I talk, too. I’m trained in a number of methods, and use what seems most likely to be both safe and effective for a given issue.
